Hello!
Life is happening. The older I get (I recently turned 40 at the end of March) the faster things seem to happen. And then my father passed away the following week (he had just turned 70 in January, it was sudden and totally unexpected) and life has been a little crazy ever since. The lessons learned are: make sure you have an updated will, power of attorney and health care proxy. Make sure you appoint a living executor of your will - and make sure this is a responsible person. Or make sure you get all of your assets into joint ownership with someone else, give your houses to your kids or whatever. These things help. My dad had many of those things set up and it was very helpful. A more updated will would have been even better.
Anyways, I hope you are all well and that I see you at this year's picnic. Some information is below.

2018 Rochester Pioneer's Picnic

The picnic is always the first Thursday of August.
AUGUST 2, 2018
It has been confirmed at our regular location - Barnard Exempt.
This will be our 80th year!!!!!!
Details will be in the next month, so have patience, but keep an eye out.

NOTE: RG&E has declined to give us the retiree mailing list. My plan is to take the attendance list of folks who came within the last 4 years and if you came at least once, I'll get a mailing out. The new folks and rest of the folks will need to spread the word....

Ed Messmer update:
Kevin and I stopped by to see him yesterday (5/8). He was back on a medical floor (not in rehab) due to another setback with his Crohn's disease - they can't seem to get that under control. He was doing a little better prior to that. It is tough to explain how he is doing if you don't have a frame of reference for how bad he was. He is much better, but still has a very long road in front of him. He has been there 3 months now. He can see a little bit now, but does not have much depth perception, he can whisper responses, but is only giving a few words at a time (so not fully communicating). He certainly understands who folks are, though he does need to think about it and he will get confused. They have him on various medications that I suspect cause some of the confusion. He does not engage much, but it is clear he knows what is going on for the most part, and it is clear he still has his sense of humor. He can't really sit up on his own. He did regain some movement on his left side. His right side is still pretty strong. He has lost a ton of weight and his muscles are very atrophied. It is slightly shocking to see him, though overall he does look good. I didn't quite have the nerve to take a selfie with him...lol! I pray he continues to improve and they get this digestive stuff under control so that he can continue on his road to recovery!
