If you know of folks that should be getting this newsletter - have them check their spam or junk folders. I have come across a few that we send to, request that I put their email in, but they never open them, so I assume they are caught up in spam.

Pioneers of RG&E Newsletter - 10/28/2016

A Newsletter for Retirees * Also posted at www.pioneersofrge.com
Some information from Lifespan
I'm hoping this isn't too late if you are interested:

Since open enrollment is quickly approaching, I thought that you might want to include information in your next newsletter regarding the counseling that Lifespan provides to those receiving Medicare. Enrollees should call 244-8400 to schedule a phone or office appointment or can go online to www.lifespan-roch.org to find our comparison chart, which compares EVERY advantage plan available in our region. We also offer Medicare 101 workshops for those approaching retirement, those newly retired or those who want to review the benefits Medicare provides and all of the supplemental options available. Below are some of these workshops we currently have scheduled. The workshops are free but registration is REQUIRED. Those interested in attending can call 244-8400 to register:

Medicare 101
Ron Brandwein, Lifespan Financial Specialist
An easy-to-follow explanation of Medicare
November 7th, 2– 4:00 pm at Brickstone by St. John's, Wintergarden, 1325 Elmwood Avenue
November 10th, 2:00– 4:00 pm at The Summit at Brighton, 2000 Summit Circle Drive
November 15, 9:30 – 11:30am at Episcopal SeniorLife Communities; Valley Manor; 1570 East Avenue
These workshops are free but registration is required. CALL 244-8400 TO REGISTER
From friends at Ginna:

You may remember Al Hart who worked as a Security Officer for 35 years here at the plant and retired two years ago.  Al passed away on October 22nd after a long illness.
Al’s service will be on November 1st starting at noon, at the Peace Baptist Church, 6 Oregon St., Rochester.
Security has put together a collection.  If you would like to contribute, please reach out to Dan Ovenshire at 315-791-3013.

Pension Info
Here is information from RG&E regarding the $1200 annual credit in the last newsletter. I am sorry for the confusion! It was related to Life Insurance and appears to be related to folks that retired on or after July 1, 1999. Here is the excerpt from the Benefits Handbook per HR:

Basic Life Insurance
If you retired on or before June 30, 1999, you will receive life insurance equal to 50% of the basic life insurance in place at the time of your retirement at no cost to you.

If you retired on or after July 1, 1999, a $100 monthly credit is provided to you to purchase life insurance in the amount of $5,000 to $300,000 in increments of $5,000. The maximum life insurance benefit amount available to you is equal to your annual base pay at retirement, rounded up to the next $5,000 increment and multiplied by 50%. If the cost of the life insurance you elect is in excess of the $100 credit, the excess amount will be deducted from your pension check. If the cost of the life insurance you elect is less than $100 and you have elected health insurance, the remainder of the $100 life insurance credit will be applied to the cost of health insurance. If you do not elect health insurance or a portion of the $100 credit still remains, that amount will be added to your pension check. If the cost of the benefits you elect exceeds this credit, you will be direct billed by the Company for the cost of these benefits.

PER RG&E HR on 8/30/16: "Aon Hewitt YBR and RG&E have been working on a reporting system to capture the retirees who are aging off or opting out of medical benefits."
Deaths
This seems to be a "favorite" topic, so I will try and share what I can find along the way.
Here is a collection of death notices from a search on obituaries that had the words "rochester gas & electric" or "rge" in it, or was posted in the facebook group.
These folks were listed between June and now. They are NOT in date order.

Before you ask, in most cases I do not know where they worked or how they are affiliated with RG&E.

The 2016 Pioneer's Picnic was a huge success!
We had a beautiful day - a little hot, but a nice breeze. It was an excellent turnout of 207 people. Thanks for attending!
Sharon Cavaleri has posted many pictures on Facebook. Look for the Facebook Group "RG&E Pioneer's Club"
Save the date!
The March Florida picnic is Monday, March 6, 2017
Updates from Ken & Sharon Kuzia in Victor:
Sharon has received her certification as a teacher in New York State.  She graduated at the top of her class.  She is now working with the Before & AfterSchool program sponsored by the YMCA in Victor.  The kids love her with all the creative activities she brings to the program.
Ken is a charter member of the Victor Art Group where he works with other to create and appreciate art.  He also maintains the Group’s web site at http://vicartgroup.wix.com/victor-art-group.  He is also building his own stockpile of his own “Restyled Digital Photography." You can view samples of his work at his web site at http://vicartgroup.wix.com/the-art-of-ken-kuzia.
One year ago, in May, Ken accompanied his Mom via Honor Flight to view the WWII Memorial in Washington DC.  His Mom, Dorothy is a 95 year young veteran of WWII.  If any of the Pioneers have friends or family members who are WWII veterans, encourage them to participate in this wonderful program if they have not already.  All expenses including air fare, hotel, and meals for the veterans are covered by Honor Flight, and the "Guardians” who accompany the vets pay a very reasonable fee to cover their expenses.  Check out the Honor Flight Rochester web site at http://honorflightrochester.org.
From Dave Shields: In the Fall of 1982, I was working as an engineer at RG&E, teaching power systems to junior and senior engineering students at the University of Rochester and working on the dinner train Friday nights because I always wanted to work on a train.
Many old department groups meet on a monthly basis for breakfast or lunch or golf, if you have details about these gatherings (and they are open to more attendees), please pass it along and I can send it out in a future newsletter.
Send to molly@pioneersofrge.com
Update on Frank Meagher:
I was emailed this information from June 1st regarding Frank Meagher: "Oncologist was very happy with test results. Killing the cancer. Because treatments will only affect him worse he will need to be in hospital for the last 3 chemos. Means a 6 day stay each time, 4 weeks apart at Fawcett Memorial in Port Charlotte. He will be admitted this Fri.
We are hopeful for a good outcome. Thank you for your prayers-----they seem to be working!  Will keep you updated.
Love, Cheryl"
Pension Info:
I received some information about a $1200 lifetime fixed credit that retirees are receiving if they were hired before 1999. It sounds like some folks are not receiving that credit as of recently if they took the lump sum option. I wanted to let you know that someone has reached out to RG&E and this issue is being looked at and should be resolved automatically.
On another note, I am planning on reaching out to HR to see what the latest and greatest phone numbers and contact information is for you all for the next newsletter. -Molly
